Why doesn't my Bitcoin Ledger application work with Core?

The Bitcoin application version v2.4.3 for Ledger included a change that prevents transaction approvals for Core's derived Bitcoin network addresses. Ledger has released a new application, Bitcoin Recovery, that users can install through Ledger Live to approve transactions made with their Ledger devices.

Users who have NOT updated to version v2.4.3 are able to use the main Bitcoin application on their Ledger as normal.

To download the Bitcoin Recovery application in Ledger Live:

  1. Open Ledger Live, connect the Ledger, and unlock the device.

  2. Navigate to Settings > Experimental features.

  3. Toggle Developer mode to ON.

  4. Navigate to the My Ledger tab and approve the connection.

  5. Search for the Bitcoin Recovery application and install it on the Ledger.

  6. Users can return to the settings and disable Developer mode at this time, once the application is installed.

When transacting in Core, users will want to do the following:

  1. Have the main Bitcoin application open on their Ledger when initiating a transaction.

  2. On the transaction approval screen, close the Bitcoin application to open the Bitcoin Recovery application.

  3. Click Approve in Core extension, which will prompt the Ledger on the Bitcoin Recovery application for the transaction.

  4. Approve the transaction with the Ledger.
